I joined Team In Training in 2011…my Dad had been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and I felt kind of at a loss as to what I could do to help. I heard an add on Q104 and thought hmmm….I need something in my life that could make a change…this was it! I could help Dad AND get back in shape. First event was Disney, Feb 26, 2012…it was gruelling…ran the ½ with an injury…but I did it and was the top fundraiser for Canada….got a few extra perks for that! I was hooked…the adrenalin rush(es) through the entire event were incredible. Soo….I decided to go at it again and again and again….I have completed San Francisco ½ twice, San Diego ½, Bluenose 10k and just last year I completed my first full… in Seattle. I swore it would be a one and done, but NOPE! Currently I am training – in solitude- (stupid Covid) for an Ultra….I am supposed to do 50 at PacCrest in June. If not there, we will go to plan B…
To date, I am creeping on $30k in fundraising. I have participated, mentored and coached….I coached my sister ( a non athlete) to her first ½ marathon….now she is also hooked!
Since I joined, I have had many more connections to cancer…my Mom has Multiple Myeloma, my aunt (Dad’s sister) also had it….my friend and colleague at work just got diagnosed with APL …the list goes on.
Team In Training is so special to me because of THE AMAZING PEOPLE!!! Staff at LLSC, coaches, mentors, fellow participants, honored heroes, doctors, researchers…Get the picture?
