Finding Gratitude and Practicing Yoga and Meditation During COVID-19
Part I -How to Stay Positive in Challenging Times
Mayra Husic was diagnosed with stage IV follicular lymphoma back in 2011. Her blood cancer experience consisted of a lengthy treatment, lung surgery, a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, and a second round in ‘watch-and-wait’, which is where she remains today.
Like so many Canadians, Mayra is following the advice of public health authorities to try to limit exposure and spread of the COVID-19 virus. She remains in self-isolation, temporarily separated from her three teenage daughters. As we navigate this new normal, Mayra will share her daily practice of gratitude and how she manages to stay positive while living in challenging times.
Part II –Discovering Yoga and Meditation Practices
Rachel Hayek, yoga teacher and wellness coach, will join us to explain the benefits of stretching, yoga, and meditation. She will introduce participants to breathing techniques, alignment, mindful movement, and walk us through a guided meditation.
Rachel is a Hatha yoga instructor and wellness coach. On any given day, Rachel is participating in one or more of her passions: writing, facilitating, coaching, and teaching on the mat. Her core messages are self-love, going inwards, honouring nature, nourishment in every aspect, and kindness.
