It started with the little voice of her grandson. "The Sky painters paint those for the sick people like Grandma." The night before our mom passed away, he looked up and saw the most beautiful rainbow in the sky. Like a rainbow, she was always shining at the world, showing just how much beauty one could share with others. She was the most inspirational, fun-loving and selfless woman we knew. We were truly blessed to have her as our mother. On June 8, 2013, Moira Hoogveld passed away only six weeks after being diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia. It is through our journey that we hope to emulate her nurturing kindness by helping those who have been impacted by cancer. It was this little voice that inspired The Sky Painters, a lasting legacy in honour of our mom. The Sky Painters created 56 paintings inspired by the personal journeys of those that have been impacted by cancer. Each painting, created by Michelle and Stephanie Hoogveld, are a visual representation of hope. The aim was to bring inspiration through art. On June 8, 2016, The Sky Painters hosted The Skies of Hope Gala and Art Auction and the event raised over $180,000 for the LLSC!
